Fix tunnel and connection errors
For:All users
No technical knowledge required.WolfP2P uses its coordination service to admit two browser clients and help them establish a direct WebRTC connection as browser peers. A tunnel or connection error does not mean that the coordination server stored or relayed your file contents.
Open the question that matches your problem, or find the exact code shown in WolfP2P. Each answer quotes the current English message and gives the next safe step.
If the words are unfamiliar, review the definitions of tunnel, invitation, session, and direct transfer channel. For the connection's trust and server boundaries, see Security.
Follow the current tunnel state
Use the reconnect, restore, new-tunnel, or close action shown by WolfP2P. Do not assume that an expired invitation still identifies a recoverable session, and share a replacement invitation only with the intended participant.
Joining or sharing a tunnel
Why does my invitation not work? TUNNEL_NOT_FOUND
No active tunnel matches that code. Check the code or enter a new one.
Check the code or link with the sender and confirm that the tunnel is still open. If the tunnel is no longer available, ask for a new invitation. Share it only with the intended participant.
Why can’t I join a tunnel that already has two people? TUNNEL_FULL
That tunnel already has two participants. Enter a different tunnel code.
A tunnel has two seats. Check that you have the intended invitation and have not opened an extra session. The sender can create a new tunnel for a different pairing.
Why can’t this tab join another tunnel? TUNNEL_ALREADY_IN_TUNNEL
This browser is already using another tunnel. Leave it before joining a different one.
Return to this tab’s existing tunnel. Close it only if you intend to end that session before starting another; do not close an active transfer just to retry joining.
How can I share the invitation if Copy fails? TUNNEL_INVITATION_COPY_FAILED
WolfP2P could not copy the tunnel invitation. The code and join link are still available to copy manually.
Select and copy the visible code or join link manually, then send it to the intended participant. The copy failure does not by itself close the tunnel.
What if the sharing menu won’t open? TUNNEL_INVITATION_SHARE_FAILED
WolfP2P could not open the share options. The code and join link are still available to copy.
Use Copy or manually copy the visible code or join link into the message you send to the intended participant. You do not need a new tunnel just because the sharing menu failed.
Why must I reload before opening a tunnel? TUNNEL_LEGAL_ACCEPTANCE_REQUIRED
The terms or privacy notice changed. Reload this page before opening a tunnel.
Reload the page to get the current Terms of Service and Privacy Notice, review them, then create the tunnel if you agree. This attempt did not create a tunnel.
Availability and connection
Does a server connection problem stop my files? COORDINATION_UNAVAILABLE
Coordination is unavailable, so this action cannot be completed now. An established direct transfer can continue.
Not necessarily. If files are already moving over an established direct connection, keep both tabs open and let that transfer continue. Creating, joining, or changing server-managed tunnel state needs coordination access. Wait for coordination to return and follow the status shown in the panel; do not reload a working transfer just for this message.
What should I do after too many requests? COORDINATION_RATE_LIMITED
Too many coordination requests were made recently. Wait briefly, then try again.
Pause your attempts and wait for any retry time shown in the panel. Then retry only when that action is available. Opening extra tabs or repeatedly creating tunnels will not help.
Why can’t WolfP2P create a tunnel right now? TUNNEL_CAPACITY
WolfP2P cannot create another tunnel right now. Wait briefly, then try again.
The coordination service has no capacity for another tunnel at present. Wait and try again later. Do not assume this failed request created an invitation.
Why won’t files move even though I have a tunnel? TRANSFER_CHANNEL_NOT_OPEN
The direct transfer channel is not open.
Files need an open direct browser-to-browser channel. Keep both computers online and both tabs open while the panel shows connection or recovery activity. Use the recovery action offered. If connection attempts keep failing, see the connection requirements.
Why does WolfP2P say this session is open in another tab? SESSION_IN_USE
This saved session is already active in another tab.
Return to the tab already running the session. Do not try to make both tabs control the same transfer. If that tab is no longer available, follow the restore action in the remaining tab.
Why is safe session recovery unavailable in this browser? WEB_LOCKS_UNAVAILABLE
This browser cannot reserve the session for one tab, so safe recovery is unavailable.
WolfP2P cannot reserve this saved session for a single tab here. Do not open competing copies of it. Review browser compatibility and use a supported browser for a new session; changing browsers does not carry over the old tab’s saved session.
Why did setting up the direct connection give up? SIGNALING_TIMED_OUT
The browsers could not finish setting up the direct connection in time.
The browsers did not establish a direct path before this attempt expired. Check the current panel and preserve any earlier destination progress. Use networks that permit directly reachable host candidates; the current configuration has no STUN traversal or TURN relay.
What happens when the connection cannot come back? RECONNECT_EXHAUSTED
The direct connection could not be restored in time.
The direct connection dropped and did not return before the reconnection allowance ran out. Files already written to the destination are still there. When the connection is stable, use Resume if the panel still offers recovery. Create a new tunnel only if the previous session has ended; WolfP2P can verify existing destination content before reusing it.
Why did a tunnel with both of us in it never work? TUNNEL_PAIRING_UNUSABLE
Both participants were present, but no direct connection between the browsers could be established. No files were transferred.
Joining a tunnel is not the same as reaching each other. Both of you arrived, and no path between the two browsers could be found, so this tunnel cannot carry files however long you wait. Start a new tunnel when both browsers have a usable direct network path. The current configuration does not provide traversal between separate private networks.
An ended tunnel or a session that needs restoring
Can I continue after the tunnel closes? TUNNEL_CLOSED
The tunnel was closed.
A closed tunnel cannot carry this session forward. If you still need to send the files, create a new tunnel and offer the same set. Keep completed destination files: WolfP2P can verify them before deciding what needs sending again.
What happens when the tunnel reaches its time limit? TUNNEL_LIFETIME_EXPIRED
The tunnel reached its maximum lifetime and closed.
Create a new tunnel if more files need transferring. Keep the source and destination unchanged so WolfP2P can verify reusable destination content. Expiry does not delete files already saved.
Why won’t an ended tunnel accept another action? TUNNEL_TERMINAL
This tunnel has already ended and cannot accept another operation.
This tunnel has finished and cannot be reused. Check the transfer outcome before starting again. If work remains, create a new tunnel rather than repeating actions against the old one.
Why does this browser no longer have access to the tunnel? TUNNEL_NOT_MEMBER
This browser is not an admitted member of that tunnel.
This browser session is not currently admitted to a seat, and repeating the same request from it cannot succeed. Return to the original session tab if it remains available. Otherwise, use only an alternative currently offered by the panel; knowing an old code does not restore a saved seat.
How do I restore my place in the tunnel? TUNNEL_RECLAIM_REQUIRED
This browser must restore its saved tunnel seat before continuing.
Use the restore action shown for this saved session. Keep the original tab and wait for restoration before trying to send, receive, or change tunnel state.
What if my saved place in the tunnel cannot be restored? TUNNEL_RECLAIM_INVALID
The saved recovery authority is not valid for this tunnel seat.
The saved recovery information cannot authorize this seat, and repeating the same reclaim request cannot succeed. Use the original session tab if it still works. Otherwise, follow an alternative currently offered by the panel and keep the files available for any later verified transfer.
Why doesn’t the saved session match the tunnel anymore? TUNNEL_RESTORE_STATE_MISMATCH
The saved session state does not match the tunnel's current state.
The saved browser state cannot safely be applied to the tunnel’s current state. Follow the recovery or new-tunnel action shown. Do not assume that reopening an old invitation restores the earlier transfer.
Why wasn’t my latest action applied? TUNNEL_VERSION_STALE
The tunnel changed before this request arrived. WolfP2P refreshed the current state.
The tunnel changed while the request was in flight. Read the updated panel state, then use an action that is still available. Do not repeatedly submit the old action or reload an active transfer just to clear the message.
Why can’t I make that change right now? TUNNEL_TRANSITION_REJECTED
The tunnel state changed while this request was being applied. WolfP2P refreshed the current state.
This is a timing collision, not something you caused. Read the refreshed panel and use an action that is still available.
Was my transfer outcome recorded? TUNNEL_OUTCOME_INVALID
The coordination service did not recognize the reported transfer outcome, so it was not recorded.
The coordination service did not record the submitted outcome. Check the local transfer result and destination files; this message alone does not prove that files failed or succeeded. Repeating the same report cannot succeed, so keep the error code and contact support.
Why is an action no longer available? TRANSITION_REFUSED
That operation is not available in the current state.
The application state changed or the action does not apply here. Read the current panel and choose an available action instead. If no useful action is offered, keep the error code and describe what you were trying to do when reporting the problem.
Why did this browser lose its place in the tunnel? SEAT_DISCONNECTED
This browser’s place in the tunnel ended when its connection to the service did.
The live connection no longer holds the seat. Its reserved recovery authority may still be valid: use the restore action in the owning tab when offered. A disconnection alone does not prove that the tunnel has retired.
Why did another tab take my place in the tunnel? SEAT_RECLAIMED
Another tab reclaimed this place in the tunnel, so this one gave it up.
Only one tab can hold a place in a tunnel at a time. Another tab of yours claimed it, and this one stepped aside. Continue in that tab; nothing was lost, and closing this one changes nothing.
What does it mean that my place was taken over? SEAT_TAKEN_OVER
Another tab took over this place in the tunnel.
Another authenticated connection replaced this tab’s live seat attachment. Continue in the tab holding the session. The current Product does not provide a way to move saved recovery authority to another device.
- The browsers need a direct network path. The current configuration gathers host candidates only, with no STUN traversal between separate private networks and no TURN file relay. Even a shared network can block the connection.
- One browser tab represents one tunnel. Reloading or browser-restoring the same tab can resume its session, but genuinely closing the tab ends that session.
